แอลเอ (สยามทาวน์ยูเอส) : ภาพยนตร์สารคดี The Rescue ของเนชันแนล จีโอกราฟฟิก ที่สร้างจากปฏิบัติการช่วยหมูป่าออกจากถ้ำหลวง เมื่อปี 2018 ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิง 5 รางวัลของสมาคมนักวิจารณ์อเมริกัน โดยหนึ่งในผู้เข้าชิงคือ “พิชา ศรีศันสนีย์” ผู้กำกับภาพชาวไทยด้วย

เมื่อวันที่ 18 ตุลาคม 202 สมาคมนักวิจารณ์ (the Critics Choice Association) ได้ประกาศรายชื่อผู้เข้าชิงรางวัลสารคดียอดเยี่ยม(Critics Choice Documentary Award) ซึ่งจัดเป็นปีที่ 6 โดยสารคดีเรื่อง The Rescue ซึ่งเป็นสารคดีเกี่ยวกับปฏิบัติการของเหล่าอาสาสมัครนานาชาติ ร่วมมือกับข้าราชการ ทหาร และประชาชนจากทุกภาคส่วนของไทยในการช่วยเหลือเด็กและโค้ชทีมฟุตบอลหมูป่าอะคาเดมี จากเหตุการณ์นำ้ท่วมถ้ำหลวง-ขุนน้ำนางนอน จังหวัดเชียงราย เมื่อปี 2018 ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงถึง 5 รางวัล

โดย 5 รางวัลที่ภาพยนตร์สารคดีเรื่อง The Rescue ได้รับการเสนอชื่อ คือ

-รางวัลภาพยนตร์สารคดียอดเยี่ยม 

-รางวัลผู้กำกับยอดเยี่ยม ของอลิซาเบธ ชัย วาซาร์ฮีลี และจิมมี ชิน

-รางวัลกำกับภาพยอดเยี่ยม 

-รางวัลตัดต่อยอดเยี่ยม

-รางวัลดนตรีประกอบยอดเยี่ยม

ในส่วนของหัวข้อกำกับภาพยอดเยี่ยมนั้น มีชื่อของผู้กำกับภาพชาวไทย คือ พิชา ศรีศันสนีย์ ปรากฎอยู่ด้วย โดยเขาได้รับการเสนอชื่อร่วมกับทีมช่างภาพอีกสองคน คือเดวิด แคทซ์เนลสัน และเอียน เซียบรูค 

โดย พิชา ศรีศันสนีย์นั้น ในเครดิตระบุว่าเคยร่วมงานในฐานะผู้กำกับภาพกับภาพยนตร์ทุนฮอลลีวูดมาแล้วหลายเรื่อง เช่น Mechanic: Resurrection, Shanghai, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Rescue Dawn, Into the Sun ฯลฯ

การถูกเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงถึง 5 รางวัลของ The Rescue ถือเป็นการเข้าชิงมากเป็นอันดับสอง รองจาก  Ascension และ Summer of Soulฯ ซึ่งได้เสนอชื่อเข้าชิง 6 รางวัล แต่เพราะทั้งสองเรื่องเป็นผลงานเรื่องแรกของผู้สร้าง จึงได้รับการเสนอชื่อชิงรางวัลภาพยนตร์สารคดีเรื่องแรกยอดเยี่ยม (Best 1st Documentary Feature) ด้วย

ทั้งนี้ รางวัลสารคดียอดเยี่ยมของสมาคมนักวิจารณ์สหรัฐฯ หรือ The Critics' Choice Documentary Awards มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อยกย่องความสำเร็จของผู้สร้างภาพยนตร์สารคดี หรือรายการโทรทัศน์ (ที่ไม่ใช่นิยาย) ของอเมริกา โดยเริ่มจัดครั้งแรกในปี 2016 

เมื่อปี 2018 ภาพยนตร์สารคดีเรื่อง Free Soso ของผู้กำกับสองสามี-ภรรยา จิมมี ชิน และอลิซาเบธ ชัย วาซาร์ฮีลี เคยได้รับรางวัลนี้มาแล้วถึง 3 รางวัล คือรางวัลกำกับภาพยอดเยี่ยม, สารคดีเกี่ยวกับกีฬายอดเยี่ยม และสารคดีที่ใช้เทคนิคใหม่ยอดเยี่ยม (Most Innovative) ขณะที่ อเล็กซ์ ฮอนโนลด์ นักปีนผาแบบมือเปล่า ที่ถูกนำเรื่องราวมาสร้างเป็นสารคดี Free Solo ได้รับรางวัลเกียรติยศในฐานะบุคคลที่มีเรื่องราวชีวิตน่าสนใจด้วย

โดยก่อนหน้านี้ ธเนศ นะธิศรี ผู้เชี่ยวชาญการบริหารจัดการน้ำใต้ดิน หนึ่งใน “ฮีโร่ถ้ำหลวง” ซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็น Executive Producer ให้กับภาพยนตร์สารคดี The Rescue ของบริษัทเนชันแนล จีโอกราฟฟิกฯ ได้ให้สัมภาษณ์สยามทาวน์ยูเอส หลังเสร็จการฉายภาพยนตร์รอบพิเศษสำหรับชุมชนไทย ณ โรงภาพยนตร์แลนด์มาร์ค เมื่อวันที่ 9 ตุลาคม ที่ผ่านมา โดยกล่าวว่ามีโอกาสค่อนข้างมากที่ The Rescue จะได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัลสารคดียอดเยี่ยมรางวัลออสก้าร์ ปีหน้าด้วย

“ได้รับรางวัล People's Choice Award ของเทศกาลหนังโตรอนโต้มา เป็นฟิล์มเฟสติวัลที่ใหญ่ที่สุดนะครับ เราชนะรางวัลมา ถือว่าถ้ามองจากมุมของนักวิจารณ์นี่ เราก็ค่อนข้างจะดีพอสมควร จากการไป Telluride Film Festival มา แล้วก็จากโตรอนโต้ และมีฟิล์มเฟสติวัลหลายที่ที่เราไป ฟังจากคนดู จากนักวิจารณ์ คิดว่าน่าจะมีสิทธิ์ได้รับการเสนอชื่อชิงออสก้าร์ปีหน้าครับ คือถ้าได้ผมว่าก็น่าจะเป็นบทบาทหนึ่งในการช่วยโปรโมทประเทศไทย”

รางวัลสารคดียอดเยี่ยมของสมาคมนักวิจารณ์สหรัฐฯ (Critics Choice Documentary Award) ครั้งที่ 6 จะมีการประกาศผลในวันอาทิตย์ที่ 14 พฤศิจกายน 2021 ที่ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมบรูคลีน (BRIC) เมืองนิวยอร์ก
